Less processed food are one that’s more natural and original. For instance, whole-grain and whole-wheat bread are less processed than white bread; fresh vegetables are less processed than canned vegetables; and so on.
The problem with processed food is that it’s often added with preservatives (as in canned food) or has removed nutritious parts of food (as in white bread). Besides, processed food such as refined cakes or desserts are often too sweet and contain too much sugar compared to the less processed one. The general rule for a healthy diet is to eat less processed food which is generally more natural, original, and healthy.
Typically this kind of food is loaded with things you wouldn’t put in it if you made it yourself. They contain refined sugar, extra salt, and other flavor enhancers. Not only are these often unhealthy, but they dull your taste buds to natural flavors. The result? A need to eat more processed foods to get the taste you want, and natural foods do not taste as good as they should.
Processed foods also mean that there is more packaging, sometimes recyclable and other times not. Buying fresh vegetables as apposed to frozen will have little or no packaging at all. Less waste into the overflowing landfills. We can all do our part to live green.
