Green Reasons To Think Before You Buy

We are living a life of convience, along with that is the extra waste that is produced. The amount of food, clothing, furniture, and many other items that are thrown away on a daily basis are filling up our land fills. The planet is slowly being overtaken with trash and there are alternatives to help clean our environment and make the world a better place for our children.

Instead of throwing things away, why not give to a thrift store, a charity, or a church group that helps the homeless and those who are less fortunate. There are many ways to help by providing for families that may not make enough to buy new clothes for themselves or their children.

There are many groups that operate online that give people contact with each other through the group to exchange items or post ones they do not need any longer. Others may post that they need certain items. Matching up what is needed with those who need it is one way to keep so many items from just being thrown away.

Visit flea markets, yard sales, and garage sales for used items that you may need. You sometimes can find great bargains on items you are looking for and do not have to pay a huge price for them.

Hand me downs are another great way to save money and keep from throwing out clothes that are too small for your child but may fit your niece or nephew or a little brother or sister. Kids especially outgrow their clothes so quickly that you can spend a small fortune keeping a child clothed. By sharing clothes with family members or close friends you are not only helping out financially but helping to protect your environment.

When you decide you are going to make a major purchase such as a refrigerator, why not make sure the one you purchasing is the most energy efficient one you can find. The less energy it takes to run, the more you save and the more the planet saves.

Instead of buying new, refurbish. That couch and loveseat that has seen better days can be remodeled. A few yards of material, some new padding and you have a set that looks like they were bought brand new. The same thing can apply to your old wood furniture. By redoing it, you are saving money by not buying a new set, refurbishing the old set will give it a new look and you get to keep your good wood furniture. Instead of purchasing new, the old will do if it can be spruced up and given a nice fresh, new look.

If you live in an area that has recycling, make sure you sort your garbage and send what can be recycled to another center where they make things out of the original material. This will keep more things from being taken to the garbage dump and you will be contributing to keeping the world a cleaner place.
