Green Commute - Save Gas to Promote your Health

The car is the most useful purchase that anyone will ever make. But in this recessive economy, gas prices have dramatically increased, making many people seek cheaper transportation methods. By driving less, people improve the air quality as well as their health. In the process, they will also be saving money that would go to other important necessities. The environment will be cleaner and the planet will be saved from natural resource depletion.

If the weather is nice, and the destination is not too far, why not walk or ride a bicycle to your destination. If it is a casual destination, they can even rollerblade or skateboard. It is better for the environment as well as better for the health. Such exercise will strengthen the heart, tone the overall body, and improve stamina and endurance, while reducing stress from driving in traffic. And, it will further save money and gas.

But if you need to go to a farther destination, there are many options, which include carpooling, train, metro, bus, and subway, depending on the environment where you live. If you want to save gas and money on your drive to work, try telecommuting, online work, or carpooling.

If you choose carpooling, be the designated driver, and split the cost of the gas with the other passenger. Depending on how many people are in your car, it can save you a lot of money because everyone is splitting the cost. Or, consider moving closer to your job. Maybe there are cheaper apartments or homes in that location. Even if the homes or apartments are expensive in that area, you will still be saving on gas by not driving to work every day.

Furthermore, campaign with your local city council to create more sidewalks and bike lanes specifically designed for a large number of students and business people who want to walk or ride bicycles to their destinations, whether for work or school. Again, you will be improving your health, reducing daily traffic, and improving the environment with less pollution. The air quality will improve, your body will be toned, and you will be able to breathe in fresh air into your lungs.
