Once you decide to go green and realize the benefits of going green, you will look at everything from a different perspective. You will want others to know how easy it is to go green and sometimes they don’t understand and share your values. It gets pretty frustrating and you have to have the patience to deal with it and explain it to them.
My mother recycles everything at home but when she is out and there is no recycling bin around, the plastic water bottle goes into the garbage which frustrates me. Considering how light the bottle is empty, it could just be crushed and throw back in to her bag to recycle at home!
I saw this happen yesterday, unfortunately I couldn’t just stand by and leave the bottle int the garbage so I went into the garbage to pick it out (good thing there was barely any garbage in there). This disgusted her of course but she accepted me and my “crazy” ways. I just want to do my part in keeping it out of the landfills.
Another example is I went to a friends house party. She has a recycling curbside box and when cleaning up, she just tossed the recyclable juice boxes into the garbage. I could not understand why she was doing that and she said she was not recycling tonight. So I just picked up the empty juice boxes and placed it in her recycling box for her. It takes so little effort and some people are not willing to do it. She did not take offense to my “helping” her so that was good. She understands the value of recycling but our life of convenience just gets in the way sometimes. We just need to step up and take action and teach each other.
It is not that difficult to go green, recycling save the environment, keeps our landfills from overflowng… As you become aware or going green, things people do will frustrate you a little. You know that you are doing the right thing, and showing by example is an awesome way to teach others.
