Soapnuts - Green Laundry Alternative

Have you heard of soapnuts?  Soapnuts are small, berry—like fruit that grown in warm climates and have been used by the local people there to keep things clean for ages. It is a small fruit that is covered by a hard outer covering, and the shell is a perfect thing to use to clean your house in an eco-friendly fashion.

You can use it in your laundry, in lieu of chemical detergents. Place four to six soapnut shells into a small cloth bag and add it to the washing machine.  One small bag like this can last you four to five loads of laundry, and you’ll find that not only are your clothes clean, you don’t even need to add any fabric softener.

Soapnuts will be less abrasive than normal detergents, and you’ll find that they are also perfect for people with sensitive skin.  This is an all environmentally friendly alternative to chemical washing.

Soapnuts can also be used to clean your hair.  It can help restore naturals oils to your hair and and also help with itchy scalp and dandruff.  When you are done, the remnants of the soapnuts can be placed in the compost with very little impact to the environment.

One of the great things about soapnuts is that they are idea for cleaning your home as well as your body.  You’ll discover that you can easily use it to clean things as disparate as windows, steel, statues or stone.  One great way to take care of jewelry is to add a little bit of water to soapnut powder to make a paste.  Then you can apply the paste to your gold or silver and buff it off.  You’ll also find that this paste can be used to wash your dishes.  You may be a little surprised not to see foam, but you’ll soon discover that this is definitely not a problem.
